Altamont Motorsports Park
Former location -
On December 6, 1969 The Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Santana, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Grateful Dead were scheduled to play a concert at Sears Point, but due to a contract dispute, the concert had to be moved here.
The Hell's Angels were hired as security for the price of beer... big mistake. During the Airplanes concert, lead singer Marty Balin was knocked unconscious and during the Stones concert a man was stabbed and stomped to death by the "security" forces. It is all documented in the great film "Gimme Shelter".
The Dead never made it on stage as they left before the Stones gig ended.
