The arena was part of the RiverCentre, a large convention center.
Bruce Springsteen's legendary 1984 "Born in the U.S.A." Tour formally opened at the arena. Brian DePalma directed the video for "Dancing in the Dark" here as well.
The Civic Center was demolished in 1998. The Xcel Energy Center, which opened in 2000, sits on the site of the old arena now.
