The Newport Folk Festival was founded in 1959 and continues on to this day. The Festival is renowned for introducing Joan Baez and Bob Dylan to the world.

On July 25, 1965 Dylan was booed by some fans when he played here with The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and many fans felt he had abandoned his folk roots.
