Designed by architect William Burnet Tuthill and built by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1891, carnegie Hall is one of the most famous music venues in the world. It is renowned for its beauty, history and acoustics.

Rock and roll music first came to Carnegie Hall when Bill Haley and his Comets appeared in a variety benefit concert on May 6, 1955. On February 12, 1964, The Beatles performed two shows here during their historic first trip to the United States.

The Beach Boys played concerts there in 1971 and 1972. Pink Floyd played here on May 1 and 2, 1972, performing selections from what would become The Dark Side of the Moon.

Chicago recorded what many consider to be one of the greatest live recordings of all time here in 1971 for "Chicago At Carnegie Hall" also known as Chicago IV.

On March 11, 2009 at a tribute concert for R.E.M. featuring various artists, the band came on stage to perform "E-Bow the Letter" with Patti Smith. It was the last time they ever performed before a live audience together.
