The Cocoanut Grove, was a supper club located in the Ambassador Hotel, it opened in April 1921. The first Academy Awards ceremony where the "Oscar" statues were awarded was held in the Grove in 1930. It was also the home of the first Golden Globe Awards.
During the late 1960's and early 1970's, the "Grove" hosted many rock acts including The Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Canned Heat, Ike and Tina Turner and the Boomtown Rats.
The October 1987 tribute to Roy Orbison with Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello was held here as well.
