Hollywood Palladium
Opened in 1940, this venue has seen everything from Frank Sinatra to the Pornographic Film industry's Awards show.
In the 60's, when large venue owners weren't sure that " hippie" music would make them any money, this was the largest hall in Los Angeles that allowed bands like The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, The Who and others to play. It remained a well used concert site because it did not have built-in seats, so that it allowed dancing and promoters could pack them in.
The Blues Brothers concert sequences were filmed here. Even stranger, the owner throughout the the 60's and 70's was none other than that rocker, Lawrence Welk. He broadcast his show from this location for many years. Wunnerful, wunnerful.
