The buildings here were originally built by Charlie Chaplin as the Chaplin Studios. Back in the 1920's the studio was completely surrounded by orange groves, now it's just another street in Hollywood. The buildings went through several owners before becoming A & M's home in 1966. The label was founded by Herb Albert and Jerry Moss in 1962 and is named after the two founders initials.
The label's history included the greatest acts of the last 40+ years such as James Brown, The Carpenters, Joe Cocker, Cream, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Moody Blues, Nazareth, Cat Stevens, Styx, Supertramp, The Bee Gees, Rick Wakeman, Joe Jackson, The Police, Squeeze, Oingo Boingo, Soundgarden and even Andrew Lloyd Webber! Many of the early videos for these artist's were also filmed at this location.
In January of 1999 A & M Record's parent company, now known as Universal Music Group, shut down this historic Rock 'N Roll location. The location is now the home of Jim Henson Productions, which operates Henson Recording Studios here.
