Leo Fender (Aug. 10, 1909 - Mar. 21, 1991) In 1946, he started the Fender Electric Instrument Company. Fender became the first to design and successfully market a solid body electric guitar with his Broadcaster in 1948. Released in 1954, Fender's iconic Stratocaster model has been in continuous production since.
